The interview is one of the most effective ways to showcase your work as a writer. Before you sit on an interview however it would be appropriate for you to know the nature of the interview. Is it a TV, radio, newspaper, or an online interview? You would also want to know the questions and the duration of the interview. Know however that some interviewers may not adhere to the script.
Your personal appearance--dressing and grooming are very important. It gives you confidence. Speech qualities related to voice and the use of gestures is also very important. It would not be out of place for you to rehearse in front of a mirror before the interview.
But then how do you answer the questions?
Instead of giving hackneyed answers like "no comments," or "I reserve my comments," talk a lot of 'nonsense' without saying anything. It is Alan Greenspan's style called febspeak.
Consider this example:
Question: "Are you going to write another book?"
Answer: "I am still savoring the success of the first. But that is not to say that I am not gathering materials. It could end up the attic. You probably know that writing is not easy. It took me years of agony to do my first book. Even Jesus didn't enjoy the Gethsemane experience. Literature collection and writing is some Gethsemane." (You have not really said anything.)
